View of Auckland from Rangitoto Island

Rangitoto island is the youngest volcano in Auckland volcanic field. It rose from the Hauraki gulf seabed about 600 years ago. Now it is the biggest, highest (260 m) and least altered by people volcano in the area.
The picture was taken not from its summit, but rather somewhere half-way on the summit track. On the very foreground is the part of Hauraki Gulf called Rangitoto channel, then the piece of the peninsula with mount Victoria on the left and Cheltenham beach. The water body far away is Waitemata Harbour, then Auckland Port, Auckland CBD (Central Business District) with Sky Tower. On the background are Waitakere Ranges, behind them lies the Tasman Sea.
